Removing
Risk of destroying if the running direction of a used ribbed belt is reversed.
• Before removing ribbed belt, marking running direction with chalk or a felt-tip pen for reinstallation.
- With ignition switched off, disconnect battery ground wire. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
- Remove the fan shroud.
- Remove the coolant fan (V51) if applicable.
- To release the tension on the ribbed belt, turn the tensioning element clockwise - arrow -.
- Remove the ribbed belt from the generator ribbed belt pulley and release the tension on the tensioning.
- Remove screws - 1 - and - 2 -.
- Remove the ribbed belt tensioner from the upper section of the oil pan.
- Remove the right front wheel.
- Remove the right front wheel housing liner.
- Remove the bolt - 1 - and nut - 3 -.
- Remove the right lock carrier brace - 2 -.
- Remove the secondary air injection hose - 1 - and free it up.
• Ignore items - 2 , 3 -.
- Remove the bolts - arrow -.
- Lay the bracket with the electrical wiring harness aside.
- Loosen the generator bolts - arrows - approximately 6 turns.
- Using a hammer, carefully hit bolt heads to loosen generator mount bushings.
- Remove the bolts completely.
- Disconnect the electrical connector - 1 -.
- Remove terminal 30/B+ - item 2 -.
- Remove the generator.
Installing
• Tightening specifications, refer to => [ Generator with Bushings Assembly Overview ] Generator With Bushings Assembly Overview.
Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:
- Drive retaining bolt bushings back slightly for easier generator installation.
• Tight sleeves for generator mount must be made smooth-running, otherwise clamping force of sleeve is too little despite correct torque.
- Install the lock carrier right brace.
- Install the right front wheel housing liner.
- Install the ribbed belt tensioner.
- Mount the ribbed belt - 2 - over the ribbed belt pulley in the specified sequence.
