Starter, Generation II






Starter, Generation II

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

16 mm Open End Wrench (T10388)

Observe notes on contact corrosion => [ Contact Corrosion ] Contact Corrosion.

Removing






- With ignition switched off, disconnect battery Ground (ND) wire. Refer to => [ Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.

- Remove generator. Refer to => [ Generator, Generation II, Air-Cooled ] Generator, Generation II, Air-Cooled.

- Remove bolt - arrow -.

- Leave ATF line in installation location.

- Disconnect the electrical connector - 2 - by sliding the retainer back and pressing the release down.






- Pry off the cap (if equipped).

- Remove B+ wire - 1 -.

- Remove engine support screw - 3 -.






- Remove the bolt - 2 - using the (T10388)

- Remove the bolt - 1 - and remove the starter.

Installing






Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

- If the vehicle has an automatic transmission, make sure the seal - 1 - fits correctly inside the starter opening before installing the starter.

The seal must cover the opening for the starter - 2 - - arrows -.

- Install the engine support.

- Install generator. Refer to => [ Generator, Generation II, Air-Cooled ] Generator, Generation II, Air-Cooled.

- Connect battery. Refer to => [ Connecting ] Battery, Disconnecting and Connecting.
