With Multitronic Transmission






Right Front Exhaust Pipe with Catalytic Converter

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Engine/transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A)

Old oil collecting and extracting device (V.A.G 1782 )





Removing

All cable ties which are opened or cut open when removing, must be replaced in the same position when installing.

- Pull rear engine cover off - arrows -.





- Disconnect check valve - 1 - from connection at air duct hose.





- Remove the air duct hose, thereby loosening the hose clamp - 2 - and opening the clips - arrows -.

- Disconnect the electrical harness connector - 2 - for Oxygen Sensor (O2S) Behind Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC) (G130) and free up the wiring.





Ignore - item 1 -.

- Remove nut - 2 - which is accessible from top for front exhaust pipe/exhaust manifold.





To improve clarity, the removed engine is shown from the rear.

- Remove right front wheel.

- For vehicles with auxiliary heater, remove bolts - arrows - for exhaust pipe of parking heater/auxiliary heater on noise insulation.





- Loosen quick-release fasteners - 1 through 3 - and remove front and rear noise insulation.





- Remove the front crossmember by removing the bolts - 1 to 4 -.





Do not bend the flex joint in front of the exhaust pipe more than 10° or it could be damaged.





- Disconnect exhaust system at both clamping sleeves - arrows -.

- Place Engine/Transmission Jack (V.A.G 1383 A) plunger with a block of wood inserted in between - 1 - beneath rear crossmember.





- First unscrew bolts - 1 - and - 2 -, then bolts - 3 - and - 4 -.





- Slowly lower rear crossmember with engine and transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A).

- Roll out engine and transmission jack (V.A.G 1383 A).

- Remove nuts - arrows - and remove rear crossmember.





- Remove heat shield - 1 - for right driveshaft.





- Remove right drive axle.

- Remove exhaust pipe mounting strap - arrows -.





- Remove ATF line bracket - arrow -.





Observe the rules of cleanliness for working on automatic transmissions.





- Place used oil collecting and extracting device ( V.A.G 1782) under separating point.

- Remove bolt - arrow - and disconnect ATF-lines from transmission.

- Tie ATF lines to side.

- Remove nuts - 1 - and - 3 - accessible from below from exhaust pipe/exhaust manifold threaded connection.





To improve clarity, the removed engine is shown.

- Loosen lower nuts - 1 - at left and right engine mounts a few turns.





- Push transmission to left.

- Remove front exhaust pipe with catalytic converter.

Installing

Installation is in reverse order of removal, noting the following:

Replace gaskets and self-locking nuts.

During installation, all cable ties must be re-installed at the same location.

Oxygen sensor wires must always be secured in the same position when installing so that contact with the exhaust pipe is avoided.

- Fasten ATF lines.

- Install subframe.

- Install drive axle.

- Align engine free of tension.

- Align exhaust system free of tension => [ Exhaust System, Installing ] Exhaust System, Installing.

- Check ATF level.
