Rear Suspension (AWD)



Subframe mounting, removing and installing





Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required
^ Hollow piston cylinder VAS 6179
^ Hydraulic press VAS 6178
^ Engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A with Universal transmission support V.A.G 1359/2
^ Assembly tool T10263
^ Assembly tool T10205/13

Removing front and rear bonded rubber bushings
- Remove rear wheels.
- Remove coil springs.
- Remove rear muffler of exhaust system.
- Disconnect electrical wires from Haldex clutch and electrical harness connectors on vehicles with automatic vertical headlight aim control.
- Remove stabilizer bar.
- Remove tie rods.
- Unclip electrical wires at upper control arms.

CAUTION: Before LOOSENING subframe bolts, secure vehicle against tipping (e.g. load luggage compartment with approximately 50 kg).





- Place engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A with universal transmission support V.A.G 1359/2 under subframe and secure using tension strap.





- Remove hex bolts - 1 - and - 2 -.

Note:
^ For better illustration, only left side of vehicle is shown.

- Lower subframe 10 cm using engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A.
- Mark installed position of bonded rubber bushing to subframe, e.g. using a felt-tip marker.
- Screw press attachment T10205/13 into Hydraulic press VAS 6178.





- Attach special tools, as shown in illustration.

- Pre-tension special tools.
- Remove bonded rubber bushing by actuating pump.

Pulling in front and rear bonded rubber bushings
Installation is performed in reverse order of removal. Note:
Front and rear bonded rubber bushings are different in height. Ensure correct allocation when installing.

Bonded rubber bushings must be installed facing correct direction, note markings on subframe while doing so.





- Insert special tools with bonded rubber bushing into subframe as shown in illustration.

CAUTION: Thrust piece T1026313 must be positioned so that lugs on bonded rubber bushing align with opening on Thrust piece T1026313.

7. Hydraulic press VAS 6178

10. Spindle T10263/4
- Pre-tension special tools with bonded rubber bushing.
- Pull in bonded rubber bushing until stop by actuating pump.

Note:
^ Make sure that bonded rubber bushing only rests lightly at subframe when pulling in.

- Perform vehicle alignment.

Suspension adjustment at front/rear axle must be performed on a Audi approved wheel alignment machine.
