A/C Compressor, Removing From Bracket (Refrigerant Pipes Remain Connected)
A/C Compressor - 6-cyl. Engine, Removing From Bracket (Refrigerant Pipes Remain Connected)
Special tools, workshop equipment and auxiliary items required
- VAG 1331 Torque wrench (or 5 - 50 Nm equivalent)
NOTE:
- The compressor bracket and related components can be removed and installed without having to open the refrigerant circuit.
- Do not discharge refrigerant circuit and do not disconnect the refrigerant hoses from compressor.
- Mark running direction of ribbed belt before removing. Ribbed belt could break if allowed to run in reverse direction.
- Removing and installing ribbed belt.
1 - Ribbed belt tensioner
- Ribbed belt, routing See Fig. 1.
2 - Generator (GEN)
3 - A/C Compressor bracket
- Part number versions
4 - Hex socket bolt
- Tightening torque: 23 Nm
5 - Hex socket bolt
- Tightening torque: 23 Nm
6 - Power steering pump
7 - A/C Compressor
- with A/C Clutch -N25-
- Mfr.: Sanden or Zexel
- A/C Clutch -N25-, servicing.
- Remove ribbed belt
- Remove noise insulation and divider between engine compartment and right-hand wheel housing
- Remove power steering pump (6) from bracket
- Remove support brace between left and right long-member
- Remove bolts (8)
NOTE: Push in mounting bushings prior to reinstalling compressor (same as compressor on 4-cylinder engines).
8 - Hex head bolt
- Tightening torque: 45 Nm
- Top bolt must be removed along with compressor (touches long member).

NOTE: When installing belt ensure it is correctly seated in pulley and that running direction noted prior to removal is maintained.
