Transmission Cover (Transmission Installed), Removing and Installing



Transmission cover (transmission installed), removing and installing, 0A3, 6 Spd. M/T AWD

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items required

Drip tray V.A.G1306:








Removing

Note:
^ The flexible exhaust pipe connection (de-coupling element) in the front exhaust pipe must not be bent more than 10° otherwise it can be damaged.

- Disconnect exhaust system at clamps - arrows -.
- Disengage rear section of exhaust system at rubber mountings and remove.

Note:
^ A second technician is required for removing the rear section of the exhaust system.





- Unbolt heat shield for driveshaft - arrows -.





- Remove heat shield - 1 - for exhaust system below selector mechanism - arrows - Unscrew bolts at transmission/driveshaft flange.
- Push driveshaft - 2 - together towards rear final drive. The constant velocity joints can be moved axially.





- Tie driveshaft up to side onto heat shield - arrow -.
- Place drip tray V.A.G 1306 under transmission.
- Drain off gear oil.





- Unscrew bolts - arrows - and take off transmission cover.

Installing
Installation is performed in reverse sequence; note the following:

^ Always replace O-rings, gaskets and self-locking nuts.

- Install transmission cover and tighten bolts - arrows -.
- Fill up with gear oil and check gear oil level.
- Bolt driveshaft onto transmission.
- Install exhaust system and perform stress-free alignment.
