RVU - Replacement Of T-piece For Secondary Air System (I4)
Models
Condition
This RVU has been proactively released to prevent the following condition from occurring in the vehicle:
^ MIL on.
^ DTCs for secondary air system (P1411, P1423, P0411) stored in ECM memory.
This Required Vehicle Update (RVU) is in effect for 15 months from date of publication. After that date, this RVU will expire and no longer be in effect.
Vehicle must meet all of the following criteria:
1. Procedure is valid only for vehicles that show the I4 code in the ElsaWeb Campaign/Action Information screen on the day of repair.
2. Vehicle must be within the Limited New Vehicle Warranty.
3. Procedure must be performed within the allotted time frame stated in this Technical Service Bulletin.
4. Procedure must be performed on applicable vehicles in Dealer inventory prior to sale.
Technical Background
T-Piece in vacuum line for both Secondary Air Combivalve is broken. Vacuum can not be supplied, and combivalves do not open/close, which causes a non-operating Secondary Air System.
Production Solution
Not applicable. Vehicle is out of production.
Service
1. Remove the intake manifold covers (Figure 1, Point 4) and the intake air distribution housing (Figure 1, Point 3) from the engine in order to access the vacuum T-piece. See ElsaWeb for repair procedure.
2. Replace the T-piece (Figures 2 & 3, Point 1), including the vacuum hose (Figures 2 & 3, Point 2). Use vacuum hose 06A 145 718 H (Figures 2 & 3, Point 2) as a replacement without hose clamps (Figure 4).
Note:
The vacuum hose 06A 145 718 H is 170 mm long and needs to be cut into 5 pieces of 30 mm in length. Use only one 30 mm piece per vehicle. Assemble this vacuum hose (Figures 2 & 3, Point 2) with the T-piece prior to installation.
3. Use hose clamp N 024 528 1 (2x) to secure both silicone hoses on the T-piece (Figure 4). Always use new hose clamps.
4. Reinstall the intake air distribution housing. Use 2 new hose clamps (N 024 505 4) for the two front connections (Figure 1, Arrows).
