Lubrication system components, removing and installing
Note: If large quantities of metal shavings or particles (caused, for example, by partial seizure of the crankshaft or connecting rod damage) are found in the engine oil when repairing an engine, clean the oil passages carefully, and replace the oil cooler in order to prevent further damage occurring later.
Viscosity classes and oil specifications
Note:
^ The engine is filled at the factory with engine oil complying to VW standard 503 00. This engine oil is designed for long maintenance intervals. The engine oils listed below may also be used.
^ Engine oil conforming to VW standard 500 00, 501 01, or 502 00 may continue to be used. The oil must be changed every 12 months or every 15,000 km and the Service Reminder Indicator (SRI) must be programmed accordingly. Procedure:
Part I Oil pan, balance shaft housing
1. Cover
2. 15 Nm
3. Chain tensioner
4. 25 Nm
5. Chain for oil pump and balance shaft
6. Alignment bushing

9. Balance shaft housing with oil pump
