Oil Pressure Sender: Testing and Inspection
Oil pressure and oil pressure switch, checking
Special tools and equipment required
^ Oil pressure tester V.A.G 1342
^ Adapter V.A.G 1342/14
^ Voltage tester V.A.G 1527 B
^ Adapter set V.A.G 1594 A
^ Assembly tool T101 18
Conditions
^ Oil level OK
^ Engine oil temperature approximately 80°C
^ Message "OK" must light up in driver information display
Work sequence
^ Remove bolt -1- and remove cover over coolant expansion tank (arrow).
^ To release tension of poly V-belt, screw an M8 x 40 bolt (arrow) into bore on tensioning element.
Note: Mark the rotation direction of the poly V-belt with chalk or a felt-tipped pen. If the belt runs in the opposite direction when it is reinstalled, breakage may result.
^ Disconnect secondary air hose at position marked with an arrow.
^ Move air hose clear.
^ Remove fasteners -1...3- and remove sound insulation.
^ Remove left sound insulation (arrows).
^ Remove right sound insulation (arrows).
^ Remove cross piece (arrows).
^ Unbolt pulley for power steering pump (counterhold with mandrel).
^ Remove bolts securing power steering pump to bracket (arrows).
^ Hang power steering pump on lock carrier with hydraulic hoses -1- and -2- attached.
^ Disconnect electrical connector -1- at Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump motor-V101-.
^ Move wire clear.
^ Remove bracket -2- for coolant hose.
^ Remove bracket -3- for secondary air pump air filter.
^ Remove bolts -1- and -2- and remove secondary air injection pump with bracket-A-.
^ Disconnect electrical connector (arrow) at oil pressure switch using assembly tool T101 18.
^ Unscrew oil pressure switch.
^ Connect oil pressure tester V.A.G 1342 with adapter V.A.G 1342/14 to bore for oil pressure switch.
^ Screw oil pressure switch -2- into oil pressure tester V.A.G 1342.
Checking oil pressure switch
^ Connect brown wire -1- of oil pressure tester to Ground (-).
^ Connect voltage tester V.A.G 1527 B with test leads from adapter set V.A.G 1594 A to oil pressure switch and battery positive (+).
- LED must not light up
If the LED lights up:
^ Replace oil pressure switch.
^ Install power steering pump
^ Install poly V-belt
Note: Observe oil pressure tester and LED while starting. Switching point of oil pressure switch may already be exceeded when starting.
^ Start engine.
- Test lamp must light up at 1.2...1.6 bar
If the LED does not light up:
^ Replace oil pressure switch.
Checking oil pressure
^ Install power steering pump
^ Install poly V-belt.
^ Start engine.
- Minimum oil pressure at idling speed: 2.0 bar
- Minimum oil pressure at 2000 RPM: 3.0 bar
- Oil pressure at higher engine speeds: max. 7.0 bar
The pressure relief valve or oil pump is faulty if the specifications are not attained.
^ Replace oil pump.
Assembling
Assembly is performed in the reverse order. Note the following:
^ Install secondary air injection pump.
^ Install power steering pump
^ Install cross piece.
^ Install poly V-belt.
