Output Shaft Bearing/Bushing: Service and Repair



5 SPD. A/T 01L AWD
Ball bearing of left drive flange, replacing





Special tools and equipment
^ VW401 Thrust plate
^ VW402 Thrust plate
^ VW407 Punch
^ VW412 Thrust disc
^ VW415a Tube
^ 32-109 Driving sleeve

Removing
^ Remove left drive flange.





^ Remove circlip (arrow A) for ball bearing.





^ Press out drive flange from mounting bracket for left drive flange using VW412th rust disc.
Set mounting bracket onto VW401 and VW402 thrust plates when pressing.

Note: Hold drive flange with one hand to keep it from falling out toward bottom.

^ Pull off magnetic ring for speedometer Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) -G22- from drive flange and remove from mounting bracket.





^ Press ball bearing out of mounting bracket using VW407 punch.
Set mounting bracket onto VW401 and VW402 thrust plates when pressing.

Installing





^ Set magnetic ring for speedometer Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) -G22- (arrow) onto drive flange.

Note: The followers at magnetic ring must engage in grooves of drive flange. If necessary, coat contact surface with Vaseline, to affix magnetic ring in installation position.





^ Press new ball bearing into mounting bracket.
Set mounting bracket onto VW401 and VW402 thrust plates when pressing. Press in bearing using VW412 thrust disc and 32-109 driving sleeve.





^ Press mounting bracket with ball bearing onto left drive flange.
When pressing, set drive flange onto VW401 thrust plate. Press on mounting bracket with VW412 thrust plate, VW415 tube and 32-109 driving sleeve.





^ Insert circlip (arrow -A-).
^ Install left drive flange.
^ Check and top off transmission fluid in rear final drive of automatic transmission.





Tightening torques
Mounting bracket for left drive flange at transmission 23 Nm
Heat shield to transmission 23 Nm
