Subframe mount (aluminium), replacing
Special tools and equipment
^ V.A.G 1383 A Engine/transmission jack with universal transmission mount V.A.G 1359/2
^ V.A.G 1331 Torque wrench
^ V.A.G 1332 Torque wrench
^ VAG 1389 AM foot pump with high pressure hose
If available in shop, VAG 1389/1 hand pump can also be modified for use as a foot pump.
To do this use conversion kit VAG1 389/3.
^ V.A.G 1459 B Hydraulic removal and installation tool for wheel bearing
^ Hollow piston cylinder H KZ- 15 with thrust pad E-0-204-T, hydraulic
^ Thrust pad E-5
^ 40-21 Fitting sleeve
^ T40033/1 from assembly device
^ T40033/3 from assembly device
^ T40033/4 from assembly device

Note:
^ Removed and installed mounts with subframe lowered.
^ If front bonded rubber bushing is to be replaced, loosen front subframe bolts.
^ If rear bonded rubber bushing is to be replaced, loosen tear subframe bolts.
^ If any other bolt is unfastened at front or rear of subframe, wheel alignment must be performed following installation.
^ Mark installation position of bonded rubber bushings on subframe.
^ Loosen front or rear subframe bolts.
^ Unscrew subframe bolt corresponding to position of hydro-bushing to be replaced.
^ Use engine/transmission jack VAG 1383 to carefully lower subframe by approximately 5 cm.
^ Pry aluminium shim off bonded rubber bushing using a screwdriver.
^ Use a felt-tip pen, for example, to draw the semicircular recess (arrow) on axle beam.
Extracting front bonded rubber bush
Apply special tools as shown.

9. Subframe - Pre-tension special tools. - Use actuating pump to extract bonded rubber bushing.
Note: When extracting bonded rubber bushings with special tool V.A.G 1459 B replace with correct bushing.
Installing front/rear hydro-bushing
Front and rear bonded rubber bushings are not identical. Pay attention to correct bushing on installation. See Parts Supplier.
Bonded rubber bushings must be installed correctly with respect to direction. Arrows on aluminium shim must face to rear in direction of travel and mark on subframe must be aligned with semicircular recess at bushing.
Insert special tools with bonded rubber bushing in subframe as shown.

Pre-tension special tools.
^ Check whether bonded rubber bushing makes even contact. Correct installation position again if necessary.
^ Guide tools and bonded rubber bushing during installation.
^ Fully insert bonded rubber bushing by actuating pump.
Note:
^ Take care not to cant bonded rubber bushing at start of installation, otherwise outer race could be damaged.
^ Men installing bonded rubber bushing with special tool V.A. G 1459 B replace with correct bushing.
^ Use engine/transmission jack V.A.G 1383 A to raise subframe.
Use new bolts.
^ Tighten subframe bolts to 110 Nm plus an additional 90° 1/4 turn.
Extracting rear bonded rubber bushing
Unplug connector from level sender (left side only).
Apply special tools as shown.
