Air Spring: Service and Repair


Air springs, removing and installing
Removing
^ Remove suspension strut first
^ Mark position of shock absorber - air spring piston - mounting bracket.
^ Remove mounting bracket





^ Unscrew nut -1-
^ Use new nut
Tightening torque: 60 Nm
^ Remove air-spring boot upward.

Installing
Installation is reverse of removal.





^ Coat rubber sealing ring -2- with G 052 150 A2 lithium lubricant.
^ Align shock absorber - air spring piston - mounting bracket according to mark.
^ Make sure auxiliary spring is properly seated in cover

Lower rubber sealing ring must be dry and dust free.
^ Lower rubber sealing ring must be placed on the second step of the strut tube from the top.





^ Place air-spring on rubber sealing ring and press downward.

Note: Air spring must not bend when pressing down!

With sliding motion of piston, rubber sealing ring rolls up to the 3rd offset on which the spring supports itself and seals.





^ Dimension -A- between the center bore for air-spring/control arm bolts and the lower end of air-spring must be less than 262 mm before filling.
^ Check lateral movement of piston.
It must not be possible to twist air-spring on strut
^ Install mounting bracket
^ Install suspension strut





^ Hold suspension strut only at mounting bracket and strut tube as shown in illustration.
