Supersedes Technical Service Bulletin Group 26 number 09-02 dated March 3, 2009 for reasons listed below.

Affected Vehicles

Condition

^ MIL on.

^ DTCs for secondary air system (P1411, P1423) stored in ECM memory.

Technical Background

T-Piece in vacuum line is broken. Vacuum cannot be supplied, and combi valves do not open/close, which causes a non-operating Secondary Air System.

Production Solution

Not applicable. Vehicle is out of production.

Service

1. Remove the intake manifold covers (Figure 1, Point 4) and the intake air distribution housing (Figure 1, Point 3) from the engine in order to access the vacuum T-piece. See ElsaWeb for repair procedure.

2. Replace the T-piece (Figures 2 & 3, Point 1) including the vacuum hose (Figures 2 & 3, Point 2). Use vacuum hose 06A 145 718 H (Figures 2 & 3, Point 2) as a replacement without hose clamps (Figure 4).

Tip: The vacuum hose 06A 145 718 H is 170 mm long and needs to be cut into 5 pieces of 30 mm in length. Use only one 30 mm piece per vehicle. Assemble this vacuum hose (Figures 2 & 3, Point 2) with the T-piece prior to installation.

3. Use hose clamp N 024 528 1 (2x) to secure both silicone hoses on the T-piece (Figure 4). Always use new hose clamps.

4. Reinstall the intake air distribution housing. Use 2 new hose clamps (N 024 505 4) for the two front connections (Figure 1, Arrows).
