Shift Interlock Cable: Service and Repair


Interlock cable, removing and installing, CVT 01J





Removing

Note: The interlock cable must not be kinked.

CAUTION! On vehicles with Telematics, activate the service mode on Telematics control module before disconnecting battery.

- For vehicles with coded radio / Radio Navigation System (RNS) note code, obtain if necessary.
- Disconnect battery earth strap.
- Remove driver's storage compartment:
- Remove steering column trim:





- Remove air conditioner operating unit:
- Remove shift mechanism cover, Refer to Shift Linkage.
- Shift selector lever to "P".
- Switch ignition key to driving position (ignition on).





- Lift locking clamp -2- from locking bracket and remove locking cable -1 from ignition/starter switch.
- Lift locking spring -4- for interlock cable, pull interlock cable support bracket -5 sideways out of sniff mechanism and disengage interlock cable eye.
- Remove cable tie -3- and remove locking cable.

Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to following:
- Route locking cable without kinks.
- Turn ignition key to driving position (ignition ON).
- Insert interlock cable -1- into ignition/starter switch.
- Check that interlock lever -2- is engaged correctly.
- Move ignition/starter switch to locking position (ignition OFF).
- Check whether selector lever is set to "P".





- Attach locking cable eyelet into pin -6-.
- Lift locking spring -4 slightly.
- Slide interlock cable support bracket-5- from right into shift mechanism until locking spring -4 engages.
- Adjust interlock cable.





Notes:
^ If the battery is reconnected, remember to activate the vehicle equipment (radio/radio navigation system, clock, electric power windows) according to operating instructions.
^ Deactivate service mode on Telematics control module.
