Turbocharger, removing and installing
Observe rules for cleanliness. Service Precautions
NOTE:
- Always replace both turbochargers.
- All hose connections are secured with clamps.
- Charge air system must be properly sealed.
- Always replace self-locking nuts.
- Replace all gaskets and seals.
- Remove engine.
Removing right turbocharger
- Remove cover panel from right valve cover (arrows).
- Disconnect hose -1-.
- Disconnect hose -2-.
- Remove upper part of intake manifold -3-.
NOTE: Seal the lower part of intake manifold.
- Remove lower part of intake manifold (arrow).
- Slide back heat insulation hose in direction of arrow.
- Disconnect vacuum line -1-.
- Unbolt bracket -2- with transmission oil lines.
- Disconnect line -3-.
- Unbolt pressure hose -4- from turbocharger.
- Unbolt oil return line -1-.
- Unbolt water pipe -2-.
- Remove line (arrow) from cylinder head.
- Remove turbocharger (arrows).
Installing:
- Installation is the reverse of removal.
NOTE: When installing turbocharger, be sure that O-ring for oil return is not damaged.
Removing left turbocharger
- Slide back heat insulation hose in direction of arrow.
- Disconnect vacuum line -1-.
- Remove lower part of pressure line -2-.
- Unbolt pressure hose -3- from turbocharger.
- Loosen vacuum line -1-.
- Loosen vacuum hose -2-.
- Disconnect line -3- to right turbocharger.
- Unbolt oil return line -1-.
- Remove water pipe -2-.
- Remove turbocharger -3- (3 bolts).
Installing:
- Installation is the reverse of removal.
NOTE: When installing turbocharger, be sure that O-ring for oil return is not damaged.
- The text "Abgasturbocharger" must be readable as shown in illustration, install turbocharger hose -1- properly if necessary.
- The hose clamps -2- must be installed as shown in illustration. The bolt-locks on the screw clamps must be placed at the X-marking on the hose.
Tightening torques
Threaded connection Tightening torques
Turbocharger to exhaust manifold 60 Nm
Intake pipe to cylinder head 10 Nm
Shielding plate to turbocharger 10 Nm
Exhaust manifold to exhaust pipe 25 Nm
Injection lines 30 Nm
Intake manifold to engine support 10 Nm
Oil line to turbocharger 15 Nm
Oil line to intake manifold 20 Nm
