Electrical and Electronic Components

1. Automatic Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217-
- Component location => in E-box in right side of plenum.
- Checked via On Board Diagnostic (OBD). Testing and Inspection

2. Engine Control Module (ECM)
- Location: in plenum on right

3. Data Link Connector (DLC)
- Location: in knee bar to left of steering wheel
- Connecting VAG 1551 (or VAG 1552) Scan Tool (ST), selecting functions. Refer to "On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) With VAG 1551" at "On Board Diagnostics (OBD)". Testing and Inspection

4. Valve body
- Location: inside transmission oil pan
- Assembly includes solenoid valves -N88-, -N89-, -N90-, -N215-, -N216-, -N217-, -N218- and -N233-
- Transmission fluid (ATF) temperature sensor -G93- is integrated into internal wiring harness
- Components are electrically checked via OBD

5. Multifunction Transmission Range (TR) switch -F125-
- Location: on left of transmission
- Checked via OBD

6. Sensor for transmission RPM -G182-
- Location: in valve body
- Checked via OBD

7. Sender for transmission output RPM -G195-
- Location: right, outside of differential housing
- Checked via OBD
- Supplies transmission output speed (RPM) signal

8. Selector lever mechanism
- Location: in center console

9. Shift lock solenoid -N110-
- Location: on right side of selector lever mechanism
- Can be checked in "Read Measuring Value Block" function 08 and by "Electrical Testing". Testing and Inspection

10. Throttle Position (TP) sensor -G69-
- Location: integrated into throttle valve control module -J338-
- TP sensor signal is checked by On Board Diagnostic of ECM
- TP sensor signal is sent via ECM to TCM
- TP sensor signal can only be checked in "Read Measuring Value Block" function 08
- If a TP sensor malfunction is detected using OBD program, check OBD program of ECM

11. Cruise control switch -E45-
- Location: integrated into steering column switch
- Checked by "Electrical Testing". Testing and Inspection

12. Park/Neutral Position (PNP) relay -J226-
- Location: relay plate

13. Transmission range selector lever display -Y6-
- Location: in instrument cluster
- Transmission Range (TR) selector lever display which is completely dark indicates "mechanical backup with non-active control module" mode. TCM backup functions, refer to "General System Description". Description and Operation
- TR selector lever display which is completely lit up indicates "mechanical backup with active control module" mode => refer to TCM backup functions. Refer to "General System Description". Description and Operation

14. Kick down switch -F8-
- Location: behind spray wall in plenum, integrated into accelerator pedal cable
- Can be checked in "Read Measuring Value Block" function 08 and by "Electrical Testing". Testing and Inspection

15. Brake light switch -F-
- Location: in pedal cluster
- Can be checked in "Read Measuring Value Block" function 08 and by "Electrical Testing". Testing and Inspection
