Lock Cable, Removing and Installing
Note:
Lock cable must not be kinked.
Removing:
- Disconnect Battery Ground strap.
- Remove stowage compartment below steering wheel on driver's side.
Removing and installing stowage compartment on driver's side, refer to Body and Frame.
- Remove steering column switch.
Removing and installing steering column switch, refer to Steering and Suspension.
- Turn ignition/starter lock into "On" position.
- Move selector lever into position "P".
- Lift locking clip -1- and pull lock cable out of ignition/starter switch.
- Take off cover together with guide (selector lever mechanism).
- Unclip lock cable from locking spring at mounting bracket; raise locking spring slightly.
- Untie cable strap -2- and pull out lock cable.
Installing and adjusting
Installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.
- Route lock cable free of kinks at position shown with cable strap -2-.
Note:
The steering column must be set in the rear down position.
- Check that locking clip -1 -is engaged
- Loosen bolt -6- slightly.
- It must be possible to move bracket -3- in direction of -arrow 5- by hand.
- - Ensure locking spring is correctly located in mounting bracket.
- Attach lock cable bracket -3- to selector mechanism and lock cable eye in lever (for lock cable).
- Install gauge 3352 -4- between lever (for lock cable) and lock cable eye.
- Pull lock cable in direction of arrow -5- and tighten bolt -6- to 8 Nm (70 inch lb).
Note:
Each time after adjusting the lock cable check function.
