Undamaged Rear Window (Avant), Removing

- Remove tailgate trim.
- Remove rear wiper.







- Open tailgate and guide needle using handle - 1 - under sealing lip and pierce adhesive bead.
- Remove handle and thread cutting cord through eye of needle.
- Using pliers and wearing gloves, pull one end of cutting cord into vehicle interior.
- Using plastic wedge, loosen sealing lip from glass flange and spray with cleaning solution: D009 401 04 (lubricant replacement).







- Using pulling tube, place second cutting cord around glass.







- Using needle and handle, pull second cutting cord end - B - inward as shown.
- Thread cutting end - A - in VAG1654 spooling tool and fasten.







- Fasten cutting cord end - B - to lid hinge.







- Fasten VAG1654 spooling tool as shown to rear window.
- When cutting side area, press cutting cord in direction of arrow.
- Cut glass free at bottom.







- Move winding device as shown, and continue to cut window free.
- When cutting lower area, press cutting cord in direction of arrow.
- Cut glass free at side.
- Move winding device as shown, and continue to cut window free.







- When cutting side area, press cutting cord in direction of arrow.
- Cut glass free at top.
- Move winding device as shown, and continue to cut window free.







- When cutting top area, press cutting cord in direction of arrow.
- Cut window completely free and remove from tailgate using double suction tool VAG1344.
