Seals and Gaskets: Service and Repair: Overview







CAUTION! If the ATF oil pan is removed, or there is no ATF in the transmission, DO NOT start the engine or tow the vehicle.

Notes:
^ The items shown in the illustration can be removed while the transmission is installed.
^ Rules of cleanliness for working on the automatic transmission.
^ General repair notes.
^ Coat O-rings and sealing rings with a thin layer of Vaseline. Other types of grease lead to malfunctions in the hydraulic transmission control.

1 - Double sealing ring
2 - Adjustment - shim
^ Location: behind bearing race Shim is correct size and must not be replaced with one of different size
3 - Bearing race Remove and install by hand
4 - O-ring Always replace Coat with gear oil
5 - Filler plug 30 Nm (22 ft. lbs.)
^ Remove to check final drive fluid level
6 - Bolt
^ 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
^ Tapered head
7 - Drive flange, right
8 - Sealing ring
^ For right drive flange
9 - Bolt
^ 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.)
^ Note tightening sequence
10 - Differential -cover
11 - Adjustment - shim
^ Location: behind bearing race
^ Shim is correct size and must not be replaced with one of different size
12 - Bearing race
^ Remove and install by hand
13 - O-ring
14 - Differential - gear
15 - Bolt 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.)
^ Note tightening sequence
16 - Front final drive housing cover
17 - Dowel sleeve
18 - Gasket
19 - Spring pin
^ For transmission selector lever
^ When installing, push into transmission range selector lever from back to front
20 - Transmission - range selector lever
21 - Sealing ring
^ For transmission range selector lever shaft
22 - Bolt
^ 23 Nm (17 ft. lbs.)
23 - Sealing ring
^ For left drive flange
24 - Impulse wheel
^ For speedometer Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) -G22-
25 - Drive flange, left
26 - Bracket for left drive flange
27 - Ball bearing for left drive flange
28 - Circlip
^ For ball bearing
29 - O-ring for left drive flange
