Component Notes And Information

CAUTION: If the ATF oil pan is removed, or there is no ATF in the transmission, DO NOT start the engine or tow the vehicle.

NOTE:
^ The items shown in the following illustration can be removed while the transmission is installed.

^ Coat O-rings and sealing rings with ATF Other types of lubricants lead to malfunctions in the hydraulic transmission control.

1 Double sealing ring
- Replacing refer to Differential/Transmission Housing Double Sealing Ring, Replacement.
2 Adjustment shim
- Location: behind bearing race
- Shim is correct size and must not be replaced with one of different size
3 Bearing race
- Remove and install by hand
4 O-ring
- Always replace
- Coat with gear oil
5 Filler plug
- Tighten to: 30 Nm (22 ft lb)
- Remove to check final drive fluid level
6 Bolt
- Tighten to: 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
- Tapered head
7 Drive flange, right
8 Sealing ring
- For right drive flange
- Replacing refer to Differential Output Shaft (Drive Flange).
9 Bolt
- Tighten to: 23 Nm (17 ft lb)
- Note tightening sequence. Service and Repair
10 Differential cover
11 Adjustment shim
- Location: behind bearing race
- Shim is correct size and must not be replaced with one of different size
12 Bearing race
- Remove and install by hand
13 O-ring
- Replacing refer to Replacement. Service and Repair
14 Differential gear
15 Bolt
- Tighten to: 23 Nm (17 ft lb)
- Note tightening sequence refer to Final Drive Housing Cover Gasket. Front Final Drive Housing Cover Gasket
16 Front final drive housing cover
17 Dowel sleeve
18 Gasket
- Replacing refer to Final Drive Housing Cover Gasket. Front Final Drive Housing Cover Gasket
19 Spring pin
- For transmission selector lever
- When installing, push into transmission range selector lever from back to front
20 Transmission range selector lever
21 Sealing ring
- For transmission range selector lever shaft
- Replacing refer to Replacement. Service and Repair
22 Bolt
- Tighten to: 23 Nm (17 ft lb)
23 Sealing ring
- For left drive flange
- Replacing refer to Differential Output Shaft (Drive Flange)
24 Impulse wheel
- For speedometer Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) -G22-
- Replacing refer to Vehicle Speed Sensor.
25 Drive flange, left
- Removing and installing refer to Differential Output Shaft (Drive Flange).
26 Bracket for left drive flange
27 Ball bearing for left drive flange
- Replacing refer to Differential Output Shaft (Drive Flange).
28 Circlip
- For ball bearing
29 O-ring for left drive flange
- Rectangular cross section
- To replace refer to Drive flange, left, removing and installing.
