Radio Distortion or Radio Momentarily Fades Out

Model(s):
All with Delta/Bose Radio 1996 -->

Condition 1

Voice distortion (buzzing sound) on AM stations (most noticeable on talk shows or sports broadcasts).

Condition 2

Radio Station momentarily fades out while driving.

Production

Condition 1: Improved AM circuitry as of radio production date (calendar week) 10/96.

Service

If condition 1 exists:

- Obtain customers radio code and note preset radio stations.

- Remove radio





- Locate radio production date (see sticker on side of radio) -ARROW-.

If radio production date is prior to (calendar week) 10/96:





- Inspect radio head for a SILVER remanufactured sticker (approx. 1" x 3/4") as shown.

If a SILVER remanufactured sticker is found, Do not replace radio head (radio has improved circuitry).

If no remanufactured sticker is found:

- Replace with a remanufactured radio head which has a SILVER sticker on the top of the radio case.

Note:
Always follow Warranty Policies and Procedures regarding radio replacement.

When procedure applies to vehicles within warranty use the following:

Part Identifier: 9135
Labor Operation: 9135210 50 T.U.

If condition 2 exists:

^ 1996 Delta/Bose radio is equipped with Radio Data System (RDS) feature.

^ If RDS is displayed the radio will automatically tune to a frequency offering better reception of the same program.

^ When tuning to a stronger signal, the radio may appear to briefly fade out.

Note:

^ This is a normal function, DO NOT REPLACE THE RADIO.

^ Switch off the RDS function in fringe areas (or condition will continue).

- Please inform your customer on this procedure, if necessary refer to the Radio Owners Manual or Information Booklet.
