Thermostat: Service and Repair






COMPONENT NOTES AND INFORMATION

NOTES:
^ Always replace seals and gaskets.
^ Checking coolant Fan Control (FC) thermal switch, refer to Testing and Inspection
^ The thermostat can be replaced without removing the camshaft drive belt.
^ An oil cooler, mounted between the oil filter and the oil filter bracket, is part of coolant system. Additional information, refer to Engine

1 Thermostat
- Replacing, Refer to procedure below
- Opening temperature, Refer to procedure below
2 Seal
- Always replace
3 Thermostat housing
4 Bolt
- Tighten to: 10 Nm (7 ft. lbs.)
5 Gasket
- Always replace
6 Coolant pump
- To remove, first remove ribbed belt and toothed camshaft drive belt, refer to Engine.
7 Bolt
- Tighten to: 10 Nm 17 ft. lbs.)
- Remove ribbed drive belt, refer to Engine.
- Drain coolant.

PROCEDURE





- Remove toothed belt guard.

NOTE: It is not necessary to remove the toothed camshaft drive belt to remove the thermostat.

- Remove thermostat housing from under drive belt cover.





- Installation position of thermostat. Vent valve must be installed facing up (arrow).
- Opens approximately 87° C (189° F)
- Fully open approximately 102° C (216° F)
- Stroke: 8.0 mm (5/16 inch)
