Shift Linkage: Adjustments

Adjustment
- Transmission in neutral.
- Remove shift knob and cover.
- Remove front and rear crossmembers, if necessary.
- Loosen heat shield and push toward rear to gain access to connecting bolt for shift rods.






- Loosen connecting bolt (arrow), shown here with three way catalytic converter and heat shield removed.
- Position shift lever vertically.






- Align lever so that both lugs on ball stop are same distance -a- from ball housing.
- Tighten connecting bolt (see arrow in image above), making sure that position of lever does not change while doing so.

Checking Function
- Shift lever must be in 3rd/4th gear plane in neutral position.
- Shift through all gears.
Take particular care to make sure that the reverse gear lock is operating.
- If necessary, loosen bolts for ball housing and turn ball housing slightly.
- Install cover and shift knob.
